Year 10 HSIE

Year 10 HSIE

As year 9 concluded with a look at the cause and effect of World War I and II, students begin year 10 with a focus study on 'The Holocaust'. The concept and consequences of genocide are discussed and researched, with teacher guidance. The key themes of discrimination and persecution are further developed throughout the topic 'Rights and Freedoms (1945 - present)

The History course concludes by looking at the 'Migration Experiences (1945 - present)' of Australians, especially those who arrived as refugees and how migration has contributed to the changing identity of Australia as a nation.

The Geography course picks up again in semester two with an investigative study into 'Environmental Change and Management', providing opportunities for a number of key inquiry skills to be developed, such as:
  • Interpreting a range of graphs and statistics and comparing these changes over times
  • Developing an awareness of the advantages and disadvantages to technological developments
  • Synthesising information to make a judgement on the effectiveness of responses made by individuals, organisations and governments.
The Geography course concludes with a look into 'Human Well being' and various ways we measure, map and respond to these indicators.
